Industrial gear oil lubricates enclosed gearboxes, drives and reduction units across manufacturing, processing and material handling applications. It protects gear teeth and bearings under continuous load and helps manage heat, reduce wear and resist water contamination in industrial environments.
The required ISO VG grade is specified by the gearbox manufacturer based on gear type, load and operating temperature. Common industrial gear oil grades range from ISO VG 68 to VG 680. The Gem Oils technical team can confirm the correct grade if you provide the gearbox make and model.
Mineral gear oils are suitable for standard industrial applications at normal operating temperatures. Synthetic gear oils generally provide better thermal stability, lower pour points and a longer service life, making them suitable for continuously running gearboxes, high-load applications or where extended change intervals are required.
Industrial gearboxes can be exposed to water ingress from condensation, washdowns or humid environments. Good demulsibility allows water to separate cleanly from the oil rather than forming an emulsion, which would reduce lubrication quality and increase corrosion risk. Gem Oils industrial gear oils are formulated with good water separation properties for industrial use.
