Hydraulic oil is designed to transmit power and lubricate components within a closed hydraulic circuit — pumps, valves, cylinders and seals. Compressor oil is formulated for the heat and pressure cycling generated inside an air compressor, and in rotary screw units, for efficient separation from compressed air. The two are not interchangeable; always use the product specified for your equipment.
The required ISO viscosity grade is specified by the equipment manufacturer and depends on operating temperature, system pressure and component type. Common hydraulic grades are ISO VG 32, 46 and 68.
