About the range

Chain oils lubricate the pins, bushes and rollers of industrial and conveyor chains, reducing friction and wear while, in some applications, withstanding sustained high operating temperatures. Gem Oils supplies chain oils suited to general-purpose and high-temperature industrial applications.

Chain wear typically occurs at the pin-and-bush interface, where correct lubrication reduces metal-to-metal contact and elongation over time. High-temperature chain applications, such as ovens and drying processes, require oils specifically formulated to resist oxidation and deposit formation at sustained elevated temperatures.

Chain Oils Products FAQs

Chain oil lubricates the pin-and-bush contact points within a chain drive, reducing friction and wear and helping to slow chain elongation over time. The type matters because the operating temperature range, chain speed and exposure to contaminants all affect which formulation is appropriate — a standard chain oil is not suitable for high-temperature oven or drying applications.

High-temperature chain applications — such as oven conveyors and drying chains — require an oil specifically formulated to resist oxidation at sustained elevated temperatures. Standard chain oils will oxidise and form carbon deposits in these conditions, leading to chain stiffness and increased wear. Contact the Gem Oils technical team with your operating temperature to confirm a suitable product.

This depends on chain type, operating speed, load and environment. The chain or equipment manufacturer will specify a re-lubrication interval. Chains in exposed or contaminated environments generally require more frequent lubrication than enclosed systems. Regular lubrication extends chain life and reduces the risk of unplanned stoppages.

General-purpose chain oils are suitable for many outdoor applications, but where chains are exposed to heavy washdown, rain or saltwater environments, a product with additional water-resistance properties may be more appropriate. Contact the Gem Oils technical team to confirm the right product for your conditions.
