CHOOSING THE RIGHT Agriculture LUBRICANT
Agricultural machinery can have very different lubricant requirements, even where machines perform similar work. Engine design, transmission type, hydraulic system and manufacturer requirements all influence which product should be used.
The correct starting point is the lubricant specification and viscosity grade required by the equipment manufacturer. Operating conditions, service intervals and the product already in use can then be considered when selecting the appropriate lubricant.
This is particularly important on farms and contracting fleets where several generations and manufacturers of machinery may be operating side by side.

Agriculture Lubricants FAQs
Practical answers to questions that can arise when selecting, changing and managing lubricants across farm machinery.
Sometimes, but it should never be assumed. Different tractors can require different transmission and hydraulic fluid specifications, even where the viscosity appears similar. Check the manufacturer’s requirement for each machine before using one product across several tractors.
UTTO products are generally intended for tractor transmission, hydraulic and wet-brake systems, while STOU products are designed for a broader range of suitable tractor applications that can include engine lubrication. The required product depends on the machine manufacturer’s specification, so the two should not automatically be treated as interchangeable.
Only where that oil meets the requirements of every machine concerned. Hydraulic systems can specify different viscosity grades and performance levels, so using one product simply because the machinery is operating on the same farm is not sufficient.
It can. Older equipment may have different lubricant, material or performance requirements from newer machinery. The correct product should be based on the specification required for that particular machine rather than its age alone.
Compare the required specification, viscosity grade and application rather than relying on brand or product appearance. Compatibility with the lubricant already in the machine should also be considered when topping up or changing products.
